When using Umlauts (äöü etc.) on any place (title, text) in ZWiki on my plone 2.1 site I get this error:

Unable to decode input data. Tried the following encodings: 'ascii'. (UnicodeDecodeError?: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 31: ordinal not in range(128))

Could you post a complete traceback? It could very well be a duplicate of #1204.

Sorry - how do I do this? I get not much more output than just this message:

Website-Fehler

Es ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. Die Fehlermeldung lautet:

I tried to test my case: an 'ä' in subject line or in the body text is sufficient to produce this error.

Should I post this as a comment to #1204?

HowToPostATraceback tells you more about getting the traceback and the way to post it in the issuetracker.

Finally found the traceback in my servers log/event.log:

Thanks. And as far as I can tell, it stems from the same problem but it is definitely not a duplicate.

Did this first happen on 0.53, did you try older versions of Zwiki?

I do not really remember. Since Umlauts occur rather often in german texts I _think_ this problem did not happen earlier, but I wrote only a few pages then.

My software is:

Plone 2.1.2, Zope (Zope 2.8.4-final, python 2.3.5, linux2), Python 2.3.5 (#1, Nov 17 2005, 13:26:43) [GCC 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)]?, PIL 1.1.5

Severity: critical => normal Status: open => closed

Is a zope problem solved by posting of aabp (thanks a lot!). Don't know it would be possible to change zope.conf automatically (or if I should want this).
