To date there are 38 bare except: clauses in the code. We should get rid of them and catch only the specific exceptions in question.

As this is a rather widely targetted issue it's likely going to stay open for a while... use the comments to count down to get an indication of progress.

down to 33 --betabug, Sat, 17 Mar 2007 17:24:33 +0000 reply

according to:

grep -r 'except:' * | grep -v _darcs | grep -v CHANGES | grep -v '#except:' | wc -l

we're down to 32. But actually I don't remember if I counted the 38 exactly this way...

now 20 - with latest patches in darcs --betabug, Thu, 22 Mar 2007 13:34:13 +0000 reply

I've sent in a few more patches Simon had looked at, so we should be down to 20 "bare except: clauses" now.

Some of the remaining one's are in the latexwiki plugin code and I can only guess what they are really fishing for. Some others are in "setup" style code, where I guess not many conflict errors will occur - and I wonder how much effort is justified in there.

On Betabug's List

We're somewhere down to 12-14 or so --betabug, Wed, 17 Oct 2007 02:14:23 -0700 reply

But now, all the easy one's are gone.
