**ďábel (evil) should make this text in bold, but it makes just the same: !ďábel (evil)** (without that exclamation).

"přihlásit se":http://www.py.cz/mailman/listinfo/python - the same problem. I cant see just the link "přihlasit se" (in English: join). I see, when browsing, all the text as it is in raw stx.

The trouble is IMHO in non English letters and parsers.

I think this is a well known problem. STX is very old and has indeed problems with non-ascii characters. There were some patches for this, but the real solution is to use RestructuredText. In RST (as you see on this page) the bold example and the links work (with proper syntax for the link `přihlásit se `_ ).

Yes, StructuredTextUnicodePatch might lead to a patch you can apply to enhance stx. But switching to RestructuredText might be easier.
