the sitemap command "../map" (example of map of ZwikiGardeningPolicy? ) should produce ValidHTML.

The page should also be NOINDEX and NOFOLLOW to prevent robots from indexing and following those pages.

SimonMichael, 2003/01/21 01:32 GMT (via web):
Why nofollow ? Robots will find all the pages one way or another. Why noindex ? To keep the map itself out of search archives ?

PieterB, 2003/01/21 16:37 GMT (via web):
Nofollow: pro: fast indexing by spiders, con: CPU-load on server

Noindex: con: no added value for every page (why would one want to see the sitemap of a specific page).

SimonMichael, 2003/01/21 17:02 GMT (via web):
Not having nofollow should allow faster indexing by spiders, if anything - once they've got the map they may as well use it as their index.

I see your point about noindex, I had forgotten the current scheme makes map look like a different url on each page. Also about valid html, it looks like map doesn't have any html document headers at all.

Fixed typo, follow/nofollow (i meant follow). I'm just catching up from my holiday email overload, and will get back on the ValidHTML project later... Feel free to ask me things on GeneralDiscussion or "my" wikipages.

Thanks Pieter, no hurry, we'll get there. I restored your original typo to keep the thread understandable.

I believe this has been done --SimonMichael, 2003/05/06 23:48 GMT
