This has been going on for the last versions, and I have not dug into it. HTML output of ZWiki 0.30/Zope 2.70 has loads of blank lines. Though it might seem esoteric, I assume ZWiki could gain better performance if this could be avoided.

I see just normal blank lines throughout the markup - about 20-30 extra newlines at most. Is that what you mean ?

Had a comparing look at the html from, where there are unnecessary blank lines / page breaks too, but not as much as with my installation, where there are up to four between two lines of code. Is there any known config that could cause this besides ZWiki itself?

try to give an example --bvog, Sun, 09 May 2004 01:30:56 -0700 reply

Hope this renders as intended:

<!-- navigation panel -->

<div id="navpanel">

  <table class="shade1" width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr valign="top">

      <td align="left" width="33%">

      <td align="center" width="33%">

      <td align="right" width="33%">

Hmm... here is stripping out what should be seven blank lines between the two span tags at the start. Have a look at the editing source, to see see what it is output like on my machine...

You could see more than usual due to an old or customized skin template.. or quirks of a particular page type (are you using RST ?)

I checked for this on a fresh ZWiki 3.0 with unaltered templates now. Still exactly the same result. I am utilizing Structured Text only. But a quick test with RST and Plain Text gave the same result. BTW, the only area in the source without blank lines is the editable content. Hmm...

Hmm that's a drag.. StructuredText :: quoting has trouble with that for some reason, even after I tweaked indentation a bit.

That space between the spans comes from the editlinks macro in skins/standard/ Normally there would be a bunch of links there; when they are disabled as on your site they each leave a blank line or two. I'd welcome improvements that also improve readability of the page templates, otherwise I don't think it's too much of a problem.. ?

No, at least it is not too much of a problem. But maybe I'll dig deeper into what might cause these difference between and my rendering. Thanks anyway
