Epoz is a nice WYSIWYG HTML editor that works in Firefox and other Mozilla-based browsers, IE, and perhaps Safari, with no installation required. Zwiki will use Epoz for editing pages of HTML type when possible. You can try it at http://zwiki.org/EpozTest/editform .

How to install Epoz for standard Zwiki

Get ZopeWiki:EpozX , install in your zope products directory and restart zope as usual. Now, edit a wiki page, change its page type to HTML, save it, and edit again. You should see the Epoz icons and WYSIWYG editor.

How to allow only HTML pages in a wiki

Set an allowed_page_types lines property on your wiki folder containing:

  html

How to install Epoz for Zwiki in Plone

Plone 2.0 comes with it but getting the latest is probably still useful. In Plone 2.1 some fiddling may be required to avoid Kupu (check IssueTracker). Install Epoz in your plone site via plone setup -> install products. Edit a wiki page, change it's page type to HTML, save, edit again, enjoy Epoz.

Limitations

Epoz is not suitable for page types other than HTML, pages including comments, or pages including DTML.

Still cannot use Epoz in standard Zwiki (works in Plone). I added a file system object for epoz but no joy. I am using Apache frontend. Do I need some specific proxy map for epoz? How can I disable Epoz for standard Zwiki but keep it for Plone?

Ok, problem solved. In my first attempt I pointed my epoz FilesystemDirectoryView at the wrong directory - just Epoz. The correct directory is apparently Epoz/skins/epoz. Nothing wrong with the Apache proxy config. Now it works like magic! Almost. I did notice something a little strange. If I make a change to a page, display it (it looks nice), then try to edit again, the contents of the Epoz window is the old page before editing. If I hit refresh I get the new contents.

Hi Bill - latest CodeRepos has a number of epoz fixes, see recent issue. I believe it does not require the epoz directory view, if you can give it some more testing that would be great.

How do I get CodeRepos? What exactly is it? Something like cvs? Is there a simple How-To?

Well, duh. This is wiki click on CodeRepos, right? Sorry. I'll read about it and give it a try...

Ok, I got darcs (that was easy :) and I got the newest CodeRepos version (0.30?) and I compare it via diff -Naur to the 0.29 version that I am now running and I see lots and lotsa changes but CHANGES.txt does not seem to reflect these differences. Is it the current CodeRepos version considered "safe" for an (almost) production system?

Oh, I see that there is a better way! Just click CodeRepos repository Changes on the FrontPage. Nice.

Yes - CHANGES.txt is the release notes which probably won't get updated until release time. No guarantees about the state of development code, but right now yes it's quite solid.

disabling Epoz/Kupu -- Thu, 27 May 2004 23:56:07 -0700 reply
I really hate using Epoz and Kupu for wiki stuff... does anyone know of a way that I can disable Epoz/Kupu in the wiki's with html but keep it in the plone instance so that users can use it if they wish?

disabling Epoz/Kupu --Simon Michael, Fri, 28 May 2004 07:03:23 -0700 reply
Just this wiki: customize your editform and reverse the two tal:condition="...supportsEpoz conditions

All wikis: change ZWikiPage.py:supportsEpoz() to return 0

Is that enough ?

Epoz still exists: http://mjablonski.zope.de/Epoz Kupu was called initially Epoz 1.x, and was always intended as a complete rewrite of Epoz.

Epoz 0.9 Zwiki .40.0 "HTML" page type strangeness -- Thu, 14 Apr 2005 21:33:32 -0700 reply
After upgrading my Products to the latest Zwiki and Epoz, I noticed that pages were failing to bring up the Epoz editor. I was able to get it going again... Simon, maybe you can make sense of this behavior, perhaps it is a bug or upgrade hiccup (I'll do my best to describe it). I had to remove the allowed_page_types=dtmlhtml property on the zwiki, edit the offending page, manually set its page type to HTML in the (now available) drop down list, save. New pages had the same problem until I added a allowed_page_types="HTML" property as a guess... to my surprise it works. Is this still the best way to make an all HTML zwiki? Is there an easy way to package up (take a snap shot) an all-HTML wiki, maybe in a MHTML file? See evolvethis.com Thanks!!! nate@betterdifferent.com

Epoz 0.9 Zwiki .40.0 "HTML" page type strangeness --Simon Michael, Thu, 14 Apr 2005 22:40:30 -0700 reply
Nate, it sounds as if the issue is that old dtmlhtml page type id is just html these days, and we don't upgrade the allowed_page_types property automatically. So once you changed allowed_page_types to html, all was well. See http://zwiki.org/configuring for up to date notes on this property.

Custom link text -- Mon, 18 Apr 2005 10:15:37 -0700 reply
In HTML mode, it seems to be possible to make a wikilink like this: [name of the document]? but how can you make a link that has something other as link text than link content? You can use the hyperlink button and insert an URL, but the link content isn't visible unless you go into HTML source mode.
