Howto write Headlines, Page Titles, and Subject Lines

On http://www.useit.com/alertbox/980906.html there is a text on presentation of microcontent.

It's worth reading (as many more articles in the alertbox), if you wonder how to write and organize small chunks of information. As small chunks of information sound so wiki like, you might be interested.

Here's my ultra short digest of guidelines:

  • headline has to stand on it's own, is ultra short abstract of macrocontent
  • plain language
  • no teasers
  • skip leading articles (but use em in headlines that are embedded in the page)
  • make first word an important one, information carrying
  • don't start with same word, move common markers to the back
