Discussion

DeanGoodmanson, 2002/10/21 05:00 GMT (via web):

How this (RecentChangesNG?) works.

dtml-in methods have a parameter "size", which limits the size of the list.

I wanted a paremter passed in via URL,which works, but it needs to be verified (and loaded if emtpy) in the code as not to throw a Key error.

The code to check the value (num), and copy it to a local value (via pushing it on the Request .. (there is no dtml-set), and then it uses the new variable (numPages) in the dtml-in size=numPages call.

This should make the query and page loading quicker. Related: FastChanges? (currently catalog only)

Problems: Catalog search section failing.

Plans: Make the default to a certain number of pages (find max lenth value, currently 9999), add links/forms for all pages, number of days, number of pages, etc.

RecentChanges? currently defaults to 7 when searched on 0,-#. Interesting...

How do you mean ?

FlorianKonnertz, 2002/11/18 18:08 GMT (via web):
All modifications are integrated now - Cool!! :-) Theoretically we could delete the former versions now. - But i 'd vote for keeping them to provide a better understanding of the code for newbies. The current RecentChanges? is already quite complex and i find it hard to understand with all the dtml-if and -else commands. - So let's keep the simple pages with fixed layout. BTW, if i'd like to do some commenting of the code, howto do this? I mean, shall i create a new page as a child of that page, rendered in plain text, called RecentChangesCodeExplained? or would it be better to do this in the template source files and commit via cvs?

Subject: Always remember to put a subject!

Hihihi :-) Still forgot about the subject field in added comments! - This is a new trial.

Simon Michael, 2002/11/18 20:51 GMT (via mail):
I would start with a wiki page for now. A good tutorial page which dissects RecentChanges? would be fantastic. It could start by describing the simplest possible RC implementation, then talk about catalog and other features of the latest version. NB this will be changing more.

tutorial page

Ok, I'll give it a try: RecentChangesCodeExplained? - Ufff, I hope i'll understand the code ;-)

Does the original RC page still exist? I need it for the start.

tutorial page

Puhh.... ready. - Hard work. - But....

this idea i had some days ago came back to my mind: I want to have all the code elements (tags, functions, commands) as wikipages, so they are linked from any code (text+links) page. So all code pages could be documented with at once. The tags can be explained by and by. Of course the page's names must match exactly the code elements (no CamelCase). Do you think this is possible?

RecentChangesCurrentCode?: Enjoy :-) I did it quite painstakingly ;-) - Corrections are welcome of course. I don't know much about some functions, please complete this.

RecentChanges? tweak

There isn't a space after a Note entry.

To fix do something like this:

 <em><dtml-var last_log missing="&nbsp;">&nbsp;</em>

From:

  <em><dtml-var last_log missing="&nbsp;"></em>

Not sure if the missing should then be replaced with "" or not...

I did not update the current RecentChanges?...not sure how that would affect the cvs/zwiki continuum. ;-)

Colorized RecentChanges? --DeanGoodmanson, 2003/07/30 21:16 GMT reply
Issue colors in RecentChanges?

Nice. I'd like regular pages to be the most prominent color, though... Larger text.

Kinda makes one wonder if RecentPages should not include Issues, and there be another RecentIssues?

Name and note in a single column.. I'm liking that.

Colouring just the page name now. That's a little weird. Colouring the whole table cell seemed a little clearer.. more blocky.. but it also coloured the note.

I kind of like these colours. The common non-issue pages are unadorned, the less common issues stand out. Configurable via issue_colours of course.

The excerpts are cool! Is it really the last comment resp diff.? - I like the layout to be clearer, so if the whole cell could be colorized, it would be nice.

I like the current layout, rescind my recommendation to highlighting standard pages.

Moving my earlier mockup from RecentChanges? to here. The extra radio buttons might still be a good idea, but they seem to imply a great deal of duplicated code (or abandoning DTML scripting).

When I open RecentChanges? without a UserOptions? cookie set, all the times are displayed as 29 Aug 2:33. I'm not sure how UserOptions? affects the time, but I'm guessing it's the timezone.

Thanks for the clue.. we were homing in on this. I think it's fixed now.

Yep, it's fixed now, thanks for the quick response!
