Using Plone 2.1.1 and ZWiki 0.46, anonymous users can´t see the action tabs (edit etc.) action keys do work.

adding a new "showEditableBorder"-Script into the ZWiki-folder solved the problem. This script does nothing than return "1". Not nice, but works ;-)

I just noticed this myself at, thanks for reporting it. Re-opening to find a better solution.

a fix for 0.49 --simon, Fri, 13 Jan 2006 07:56:23 -0800 reply

Plone 2.1 unconditionally hides the green "editable" border from anonymous users. For wiki pages I have just made it always visible. This is ok because we will always be showing at least the view, history, and backlinks tabs. It's not ideal for UI consistency though, because the green signifies editing, and depending on permissions we may not be allowing any "edit" type functionality. Ideas ?

No, that's clumsy. After discussion on #plone, this is a 2.1 bug; 2.0's behaviour was correct. If anonymous has edit permission for a page, they should see the green border. Need to report this in plone tracker.

Also, while we're thinking about this, clarify how Modify portal content and Zwiki: edit pages permissions interact with this and each other.

Here is the change and here is the rationale.

I opened . I think this is likely to get fixed at some point. Need to figure out how to work around current 2.1 without hard-coding it.

(09:50:36) sm: so I guess my main concern is the impact on a site admin's mental model of how permissions work, when they want to configure anonymous-editable stuff
(09:50:51) sm: I wanted to get a sense of where plone will go on this issue, and then figure out the most reasonable thing to do in zwiki
(09:51:36) sm: I think I need to put a custom version of showEditable border in zwiki anyway, to make it work as people expect with current plone
(09:52:36) sm: or just force it always on, in the zwiki templates
(09:52:57) sm: or stop using the editable border for zwiki actions
(09:53:12) sm: put them elsewhere.. can't really do that
(09:54:39) sm: time will tell.. thanks, bbl
(09:58:05) limi: sm: we'll probably move the two permission checks up before the isAnon

Ok, I believe forcing the edit border always on is the right thing to do for now:

        # Zwiki pages are different from other portal content; for one
        # thing, we follow the Zwiki: * permissions (ignoring eg Modify
        # portal content) so we need to reflect those. Also because we
        # have some key UI functions up there in the edit border (history,
        # backlinks, subscription), we will almost always need to show it.
        # Which is a pity, as (a) pages look nicer without it, and (b) in
        # the plone UI it signifies edit access, and we might not be
        # permitting that. Better ideas welcome. For now we will just
        # force it always on.
        # Also note Plone 2.1.0 unconditionally hides the green border for
        # anonymous users, which is a bug. In future they will probably
        # check for the modify portal content and review permissions first.
