strike through text in stx? --dmahler, Thu, 03 May 2007 09:06:58 -0700 reply

Is there some concise markup for <strike>xx</strike> in stx or do you have to write the full xml tags?

BUG DAY, KnownIssues poll --Simon Michael, Fri, 04 May 2007 12:28:55 -0700 reply

Hi all, Bug Day is in progress - remember to drop by #zwiki and tell us your favourite bugs..

Also: how many people use or did find useful the KnownIssues page ? It is a manually updated summary of frequently-encountered issues, especially for new users who might not find things in the tracker. It hasn't been completely current for a while. Is it worth the work to keep it ?

BUG DAY --simon, Fri, 04 May 2007 22:18:09 -0700 reply

Some hours to go yet, but I am signing out. Good work on some tricky issues by betabug and myself, with excellent input from Wu, wlang, moral support from encolpe, and anyone else I may have missed. Thank You! Let's do it again the first friday of june.

**Hide FrontPage from the URL when only is entered ** --JózsefJároli, Mon, 14 May 2007 06:06:23 -0700 reply

for instance if you type in, then the URL will be , but I would like keep the URL yet showing the FrontPage This might be a simple question, but I couldn't figure out how to do it right, although I noticed that this works with Plone (with the default_page). What should I write in the index_html method to achieve this? Thanks!

Why hide FrontPage in URL? You may have problem hiding other pages in the url.

Comment subjects are no longer bold?

If it's just the front page, you can change the index_html DTML method - instead of redirecting, have it return the page contents directly. Something like:

<dtml-var "aq_parent.FrontPage(REQUEST=_.REQUEST)">

should do it.

Until there are only ASCII characters in the title of the default page, URLs? remain readable. Once the title of your Home Page has accented letters, then these default URLs? will be just too ugly to be displayed (e.g. Keresőoptimalizálás »» Keres_c5_91optimaliz_c3_a1l_c3_a1s ), that's the reason why I am looking for a solution for this. (sidenote: non-English speaking people often don't get the concept of what FrontPage is, and sometimes my sites running with Zwiki and having a bold FrontPage title on the home page were referred to as a site named 'FrontPage') Also from a search engine optimisation perspective it is not ideal if your visitors start to link to your site as,,, because these sites are considered as different web pages to certain extent by search engines.

Hide FrontPage from the URL when only is entered --Simon Michael, Mon, 14 May 2007 09:00:35 -0700 reply

That's a good point about urls. We still need an improved canonicalIdFrom method that can substitute similar ascii letters for accented letters where possible, instead of the ugly hex codes. I think it was you that suggested this in the past ? That might help some. See and . I'd love to make these urls better for non-ascii users - maybe some of you should club together and commit a few dollars towards funding the issue, which would allow me to work on it right away ?

I take your point about the different between,, and FrontPage, but.. I think search engines generally know at least the first two are the same - they're not going to visit both of those. And, I think it is more consistent and less confusing overall to always use the .../Page url. Otherwise, when someone hits the edit link it jumps from to , and both urls are exposed anyhow - it's better to pick one and use it consistently everywhere. The front page will work the same way as the others, you can more easily add things like /upgradeAll to the url manually, it's clear where to set permissions, etc.

That index_html trick should certainly allow you to customize the appearance of the initial url though. Apache rewrite rules would be another way.

Thank you for the quick answer! Don't know why but somehow the above snippet didn't work, so I started to fiddle with it (without really having any clue about it :) and I found that this worked:

<dtml-var "FrontPage(REQUEST=REQUEST)">

Hope it won't break anything though:) Well, you are right, we shouldn't have this as a default method, but I think it is worth to mention this trick in the Cookbook and the pages dealing with Default Page concept (if you find this snippet OK).

Well, as for the accented letters' issue: yes, that was me :) As you can see the problem keeps on bugging me :), but since then the Plone folks have implemented an URL canonsation, which as far as I can tell works just great with quite a few languages, so perhaps the task is "only" to reuse the code already written for Plone. (which translates the Russian Изображение дня to izobrazhenie-dnya, the Hungarian A nap képe to a-nap-kepe for instance). How much would it cost (just a rough estimation) to develop this Plone function for Zwiki too (maintaining the backward compatibility with old-style encoded URL's)?

Thanks again, József

Thought for the day --EmmaLaurijssens, Sun, 20 May 2007 04:32:01 -0700 reply

I just created a page for Ben, and he wrote how he felt like today. The page currently is a subtopic of my own page in PeopleIndex.

An interesting thought came up: should I reparent BenLaurijssens? to PeopleIndex, leave EmmaLaurijssens as parent of BenLaurijssens? or should I move BenLaurijssens? to the SandBox altogether?

Welcome Ben, Charlotte. :) "Parent page" takes on a new meaning.

"Sandbox" too :-)

content order --Michael Ang, Thu, 24 May 2007 19:03:51 -0700 reply

How do I change the order of content like (subtopics links, main text, comments) instead of (main text, subtopics links, comments). I know I have to dig into -> options['body']?.

Main point is to move the subtopics group into another place. Thanks.

content order --Simon Michael, Thu, 24 May 2007 19:14:27 -0700 reply

That's currently pretty deeply hardcoded, indeed. Switching the first two items of:

return doc + self.renderMidsection(**kw) + discussion

in ZWikiPage.renderMidsectionIn() might be enough.

But what I usually do, since I only occasionally want to show the subtopics in a different position, is enable DTML and add an explicit:

<dtml-var subtopics>

wherever I want it (in place of the default).

A third option, affecting all pages, is to add the subtopics call whever you want in one of the skin templates, eg in

<span tal:content="structure here/subtopics" />

and tell zwiki pages not to display subtopics themselves, by setting a show_subtopics folder property to 0.

Does this help ?

content order --Michael Ang, Thu, 24 May 2007 19:20:59 -0700 reply

Yes, exactly. I know about <dtml-var subtopics> but trying to avoid it (dtml). Thanks.
